Minoan Energy Community

EIT Climate-KIC Hub Greece*, a member of which is SDSN Greece, is partnering up with Minoan Energy Community in February 2020.

Minoan Energy Community is a public based Energy Community, aiming to support the rational and effective energy transition from fossil fuels to renewables and rational use of energy in Crete, fighting, in this way, climate change and energy poverty and contributing towards the social and economic development of the local community. It is the first Energy Community in Crete, established according to the Law 4315/2018 on the 9th of October 2019 at the town of Arkalochori, Municipality of Minoan Pediados. Within these three first months, Minoan Energy Community counts already more than 100 individual members, while there are official commitments from the Region of Crete and the local Municipality to join the Community as official stakeholders. Minoan Energy Community has already become a full member of the European Confederation of Energy Cooperatives (RESCoop.eu) and the Insular Network of the European Commission's "Clean Energy for E.U. Islands" Initiative.
